CAREER OPPORTUNITIES - ADVANS BANK TANZANIA

Advans Bank Tanzania, a commercial bank licensed by Bank of Tanzania, offers career 
opportunities to highly skilled and motivated professionals. The institution is part of an international network of financial institutions worldwide (www.advansgroup.com) which provides adapted financial services to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. The Bank would like to invite suitable candidates to apply for the position of Senior Database Administrator. 

SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR - ref DBA/ADVTAN/IT/MAY2014 
REPORTING TO: IT MANAGER 

Key responsibilities: 
  • Day to day database administration tasks including, creating, modification and developing new core banking system (ORBIT) reports, modification of data quality check files, extraction of information to operations and Bank of Tanzania credit reference and end of day (EOD) backup. 
  • Creation of various reports e.g. birt reports, SQL extract.
  • Help the bank by providing innovative ideas which can improve and support business development. 
  • Help desk support in branches and head office in various applications operating within the bank. 
  • Periodic visits to branches and solve various IT issues. 
  • Creation of new products/features and setup of items the in core banking system. 
  • Monitoring closely all e-banking channels including ATM applications, mobile banking and agency banking applications. 
  • Managing database administrators in the team. 


Competencies: 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills i.e. ability to communicate well with other departments and third party partners, including understand of operational terms, needs and convert them into technical. 
  • Highly understanding, adaptable, and patient 
  • Excellent at problem-solving, time-management, planning and organizing 
  • Able to work well under pressure and under self-supervision. 
  • Strong interpersonal, innovative skills with a solid IT background. 
  • Team management.

Qualifications and Experience: 
  • Minimum of a university degree in computer science/information technology/computer engineering or equivalent with 3 years minimum work experience in a reputable organization. 
  • Professional certifications in database will be an added advantage. 
  • Proven practical experience in Sybase, Mysql or MS SQL server, administration. 
  • Strong SQL skills is a must for this position and will be tested. 
  • Knowledge in stored procedures will be an added advantage. 
  • Good knowledge in operating systems such UNIX/LINUX/ e.g. centos/red hat. 
  • Knowledge of basic computer protocols and essential networking skills will be an advantage. 
  • Experience in microfinance or the banking Industry will be an advantage. 
  • Knowledge in orbit/equinox banking system applications system will be an added advantage. 

Remuneration:
As per Advans Bank Tanzania salary scales, but will depend on the candidate’s experience. Advans Bank Tanzania offers various opportunities for career growth nationally and internationally, associated with suitable training and coaching.
