ACCESS BANK SUPPORTS DAR SCHOOL

Posted on 23:55 by Anthony Carold
Access Bank Senior Marketing Officer, Jonas Muganyizi (right) hands over a computer set to representatives of Azania Secondary School students during an event to handover 10 computers in Dar es Salaam yesterday. Looking on is the school's Headmaster, Mr. Bernard Ngozie.

Access Bank has provided 10 sets of computers worth over TZS 2 million to Azania Secondary School in Dar es Salaam, as part of a programme to promote the application of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in secondary schools in the country.
The school had 25 computers to be shared between more than 2,000 students and 115 teachers. The Deputy Headmaster for Azania Secondary School, Ms. Elizabeth Ngoda, said that as the world moves into the 21st century, technology has become more and more important to the society.
“Computers are very important tools which people need to assist them in their daily lives. Though we have been able to purchase a few computers for our students, they are not enough as the number of students increases each year,” she said.
Ms. Ngoda said that the first way that technology can benefit students is that it can accelerate, enrich and deepen basic skills. Adding that under the right conditions, students learn faster with more depth of understanding using ICT.
The Deputy headmaster further said that the school board was thankful to Access Bank for the assistance and asked other organizations to consider helping them as they faced various challenges including poor infrastructure.
She stressed that the school which was built a very long time ago was worn out and could no longer support the current number of students.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, the bank’s Senior Marketing Officer, Jonas Muganyizi said that the donation was part of their community involvement activities to share with them part of their profit.
He said that they have introduced sustainable strategy of distributing computers to schools to promote the use of computers in young generation.
According to Muganyizi, the bank has already provided computers to King’ong’o Secondary School in Kimara, Tuangoma Secondary School in Kigamboni, Mchanganyiko Secondary School in Ilala and Mugabe Secondary School in Dar es Salaam.
